Course objective Training of marine engineers on operation and maintenance of frequency converters and thyristor converters of ship’s AC and DC electrical motors.

- Typical configuration and main components of ship’s thyristor propulsion plants and drives
- Operation principle and operation modes of different types thyristor drives
- Frequency convertors control systems hardware and software
- Auxiliary systems and protections of thyristor drives. Distortion minimization
- Thyristor converters cooling systems and devices. Maintenance specifics
- Preventive maintenance, fault finding and repair
- Frequency converters PID-controllers adjustment
- Programmable frequency converter Danfoss VLT5000. Configuration. Control functions, PID-control. Maintenance specifics
- Operation analysis and maintenance specifics of passenger vessel with electrical propulsion typical systems, including: IAMCS (Integrated Alarm Monitoring and Control System); SMS (Safety Management System) and PMS (Power Management System)
Entry requirements All course participants must have marine engineering education and practical shipboard experience
